A PLACE TO BEGIN

When food, eating or body image become difficult to talk about, it can be hard to know where to begin. You may be unsure how to describe your experience, or worried about how another person will respond.

Eating disorders can affect both physical and mental health. They are not limited to one age, gender or appearance. If you think you may have an eating disorder, contact a GP promptly so that your health and the right level of support can be assessed.

A careful conversation about the support you need

  • Your thoughts and feelings around food and eating
  • The effect of body image concerns on everyday life
  • How these difficulties affect relationships and social situations
  • What support you already have, and what you are looking for now

Taking the next step

Before arranging sessions, ask Arzu about her experience in this area and whether the service is appropriate for your needs. Counselling should not replace a medical assessment or specialist eating-disorder care when these are needed.
